Dear Olathe North parents,
We wanted to make you aware about an addition to our visitor management process. This school year, Olathe Public Schools will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in select buildings before implementing in all buildings across the district. The Raptor system will strengthen our ability to screen visitors, contractors and volunteers in our school in alignment with our current school safety initiatives.
Similar to our current protocol, visitors will still be asked to show ID, such as a driver’s license or government-issued ID, at our doors. Visitors who wish to go beyond the front office will be asked to show their ID again which will be scanned or manually entered into the Raptor system. By entering an ID into the Raptor system, the identity will be compared with the national database of registered sex offenders.
Data from the ID will not be shared with any outside agency.
Once a visitor has been cleared, a printed visitor badge will be issued with the individual’s photo, date and purpose of their visit. This sticker is to be worn during the entirety of a visit, much like our current procedure.
Please understand this new layer of security is not intended to discourage parents from visiting their child at school. We welcome visitors and encourage parents to be play an active role in their child’s educational experience. The goal is to simply enhance the safety and security of both students and staff by prohibiting school access who pose a potential threat.
As the safety and security of students, staff and our patrons is our top priority, we appreciate your patience as we strengthen our safety and security practices. Please let me know if you have any questions.
