Olathe North Community,
The Olathe North administration has determined that we will revert back to a traditional schedule with four individual lunch times for the first four days of second semester. This is to serve as an opportunity to share expectations for all students about the value of Eagle Halftime (EHT). This will be upsetting to the students. It will be a great reminder of why EHT is important academically and mentally for our students. Throughout the first four days of the semester we will remind students that EHT is for: Lunch, Academic Support, Club Opportunities, and Emotional Well-being. Through first semester many of our students used this time appropriately and responsibly. However, some students were using it inappropriately and they would walk through halls disrupting students getting help from teachers. Acting very disrespectful to staff when given simple directions. We also have several students that are leaving trash throughout the building. I have attached a copy of the schedule that we will be following for the first four days back. Students will report to the commons and remain their for their specific lunch time based on what class they have for 5th hour second semester. I would appreciate it if you would visit with your students on how they are using their time during EHT. Help them understand the purpose of EHT and why the district supported a 50 minute opportunity for students in the middle of the day.

ONHS Mandatory Office Hour Procedures12/1/2017 This communication is to inform you about how Olathe North will be assigning MANDATORY OFFICE HOURS during Eagle Half from this point on.
As a reminder, MANDATORY OFFICE HOURS takes place during the 50 minute Eagle Halftime, (lunch period). Students that have a D or F in a specific class can be required to spend 25 minutes of Eagle Halftime to get help with that teacher. Skipping MANDATORY OFFICE HOURS is not an option. Office Hours are assigned with the student’s academic success in mind. Teachers will utilize a software program to assign the MANDATORY OFFICE HOUR. (This software program will send you and your student a notification stating that the assignment has been made.) The notification will include the date, teacher’s name, room number, and whether it is for “A” or “B” Office Hour The notification will also say that a DISCIPLINE has been assigned. Please understand that this is not a DISCIPLINE. It is an INTERVENTION. The software program does not allow us to change the wording from discipline to intervention. Below is an example of an email that will be sent to the student, parent, teacher and administrator. It is imperative that we encourage our students to look at their school email on a daily basis. Email is a communication that all our students will use after high school. It is important that we as educators and parents encourage our kids to begin using it now. This email is to inform you that Jason Herman has just been assigned "Mandatory Office Hour". As a parent or guardian we want you to be aware of this assigned discipline and encourage Camryn to serve the consequence on the assigned date to prevent further discipline. Discipline Summary Name: Jason Herman Grade: 9 Assigned Date: 11/29/2017 @ Lunch Time Discipline Type: Mandatory Office Hour Reason: Mr. Lynk room 101 Office hour A Thanks, Josh Price Assistant Principal jpriceon@olatheschools.org NOTE: The remainder of first semester will be used to work out any flaws in the system. We are using a group of teachers to work with the software and the process to help us understand any changes that would need to be made. You may or may not get email notifications during the fall semester, depending if the teacher is participating in the testing. It will be rolled out on a building-wide basis starting in January. If you have any questions about this process please contact your alpha administrator at 913-780-7140 or through email.
