Crisis Drill #311/16/2018 We will be having an A.L.I.C.E. drill with the focus and emphasis of the drill being the lock-down aspect. This drill is part of the new requirement the state of Kansas announced in July. We will conduct this drill early next week. An announcement will be made over the intercom to begin the drill.
The expectation for this drill is door locked and out of sight. During the drill, the expectation is for staff (once you have locked down and are out of sight) to go over some key aspects of the A.L.I.C.E. protocol with students. The protocol and tips for the A.L.I.C.E. drills are listed below. It is important that our students understand and take these drills seriously. Students are not to be on their phones or talking while the drill is in place and should be following instruction and talking points of the A.L.I.C.E. protocol. Some key aspects of the A.L.I.C.E protocols:

I am proud to report that the Olathe North Staff raised the most money by building in the entire school district for United Way!!!
The Olathe School District Untied Way has come to a close. I am proud to announce that the Olathe School District Staff has stepped up and made a significant contribution through auctions, Chili Feeds, and payroll deductions. This year’s total for the entire district is well over $43,000.00. We are grateful for an OUTSTANDING and INCREDIBLE effort at Olathe North High School. Their staff lead all buildings and raised $6,515. Eleven other buildings (including 6 middle schools) had totals over $1,000. Among the elementary schools, Ridgeview leads the way with $1,329. The Education Center ($5,160) and IRC ($2,437) had great efforts among our support buildings. THANK YOU to everyone for your efforts on behalf of United Way.

The cost is $5 a person, or any student can bring 3 canned food items and get in free (those donations will go to Mission Southside). We’ll even have the pep band, dance team, and cheerleaders to help maximize our spirit for the evening! And, this year students can purchase raffle tickets for some cool giveaways. New Influenza Expectations11/8/2018 As Influenza season begins, there a few items that need to be addressed this school year.
Influenza (“flu”) is a contagious disease that is caused by Influenza viruses, and is spread mainly by coughing, sneezing, and close contact. Symptoms can include: • fever/chills • sore throat • muscle/body aches • fatigue • cough • headache • runny or stuffy nose (CDC, 2018). There are new exclusion guidelines for schools given by the Johnson County Health Department for Influenza. Students who have been diagnosed with Influenza by a Physician will now be required to stay home from school for 7 days from the onset of symptoms. Influenza no longer falls under the “fever free for 24 hours” rule. Also, these new guidelines apply even if your student has received Tamiflu and/or the flu shot. Please let the school nurse know if your student has been diagnosed with Influenza. The district tracks cases of influenza and it becomes useful when we begin to see a large number of absences in certain grades/classrooms. Feel free to contact the school nurse with any questions you may have regarding this information. |
