The Parent Seat10/30/2019 The parent support of our athletic and activity groups in the Olathe North community is amazing. However, I caught myself getting after my kid at a recent Olathe event. I watched this six minute video and it reminded me of my role as a parent at an event. Please take a moment to watch this nfhslearn.com video The Parent Seat.

Registration is still open for AP testing. Testing will take place the first two weeks of May, but students must decide now whether they want to take an AP exam or not. Students that are wanting to register for AP exams must have their registration completed by November 4th to avoid a late fee. Cost of the exam is $98.00 per test. Students on free/reduced lunch can test at no cost, but they must still register. Any student that has a financial need should see Mrs. Milke in the counseling office. Students that do not register by the November 4th deadline will have to pay a $40.00 late fee to add an exam later. Students that do register but change their mind and decide to not test will be charged a $40.00 cancellation fee. Please contact Mrs. Milke at tmilkeon@olatheschools.org with any concerns about AP exams. Now that we are a little further along in the semester, students should have a better idea on how they might do on the AP exam and they must decide whether to register to take the AP exam for a class or not. Even if they mark, I want to take the test on the AP website, they still have to “register” for the test with Olathe and pay. I hope that this two part process is simple for all of you that are interested in testing. Registering and paying for the AP test is super easy!! Students need to register and pay using the parentvue account that parents have set up for this year. If a parent does not have an active parentvue account, they can come to the office and we can help them get registered. Please tell them to go to the parentvue account and use the intouch system (this is where parents pay any school fee) and they can mark all of the tests that they want to register for. Once they are registered, they can then pay the bill in full or they can make payments throughout the year. If they are on Free/Reduced lunches, there will be no charge for any exam. If they change their mind, however, they will be charged a $40 cancellation fee so they need to think carefully about this decision. They have until November 4th to register on the Olathe system. The only exception to this is spring AP Government. They can register for spring Government after January. Unfortunately, there is no longer the option of student A cancelling their registration and student B registering late and simply switching the test over to the new student. If student A registers and cancels, they will be charged $40.00. If student B registers LATE, they also pay $40.00. This means NO extra tests will be ordered by the school for students to take. Every single test must be tied to a specific student. Please know that we want every student to make an informed decision about whether they should take an AP exam for a class that they are currently enrolled in for this year. Olathe North’s goal would be for every student taking AP classes to register for, complete all the possible test prep, and take the exam in May. A little confidence and a lot of hard work will set the student up for success on AP exams. ![]()
