"One Chip Challenge"8/30/2021 ![]() Just an FYI. I was unaware of this and I wanted to share it with the Olathe North community. It is called the “One Chip Challenge” and it is called Paqui which sounds like Takis. I guess they are made from the hottest peppers on the planet. Students have offered them to teachers and other students in other buildings across the district and it made them sick. Please have a conversation with your student before this trend hits Olathe North.

2021 Fall Athletic Ticket Info Update8/27/2021 ![]() ON Families, We are excited to welcome our fans back to all of our athletic events this fall. Please read the attached items to find updated fan guidelines, ticket prices, and ticket purchasing information. Like most events attended in the year 2021, the Olathe School district is shifting to a cash free paying environment. Hometown Ticketing returns as a provider for all of our ticketed athletic events. Included this year is the ability to download a new app to help streamline the process. Information and instructions are included in the attached documents. We will still have a very limited cash option for payment at games. Please understand that these lines may be much longer as our ticketing resources shift to the online format. Many of our neighboring districts have also either narrowed cash payment options or eliminated them this year. This info will be pertinent when our teams go on the road and fans need to purchase tickets from these neighboring school districts. We are also aware that Olathe North student activity passes have not been handed out yet. We have been promised by our vendor they will arrive prior to the first football game on 9.10. In the meantime, we will print out a pass gate for all students whose parents have purchased a student activity pass for so that they can enter our events with NO charge. Please see the attached documents for detailed instructions on purchasing single game tickets or season passes, GO EAGLES!! ![]()

Eagle Opportunities8/19/2021 Olathe North is excited to introduce Eagle Opportunities to our community. This is a special schedule that we will be using to meet the Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) expectations for the state of Kansas. It will also replace what we formerly knew as Eagle Halftime. The difference between EHT (Eagle Halftime) and Eagle Opps. (Eagle Opportunities) is the structure of the academic support time for the students. Our students will have the opportunity to get academic support, social and emotional support, join clubs, ACT Prep, AP Prep, socialization with fellow students, specific test prep, multi tiered systems of support in literacy and numeracy. Below is a detailed explanation of what Eagle Opps is all about. What is Eagle Opps? Eagle Opps. is 30 minutes in the middle of the day for students to use for tutoring, office hours, academic interventions, clubs, studying, academic review sessions and another 30 minutes for lunch. Some of these options will be assigned to students for various reasons and individual needs of the students. Some of these options will be a choice for the student. There is a 10 minute advisory for check-in purposes and then there are two 30 minute blocks. Teachers have lunch and then offer 30 minutes of office hours (or supervise one of the above listed activities) to work with students. Why Eagle Opps? Academic Support (Goal 1) Advisory and office hours were only 1x/week and limited in its impact. Eagle Opps provides daily academic support for students within the confines of the school day. (150 additional minutes of support/week) Emotional Well-Being (Goal 2) Eagle Opps provides an opportunity for students to decompress, and for staff and students to connect. College & Career Readiness (Goal 3) Most high school schedules are compartmentalized and leave little or no room for students to develop the soft skills necessary for being college and/or career ready. Eagle Opps provides the time for students to develop these skills while still in high school. And…..It Fits! Eagle Opps can fit into our current schedule with only minor adjustments. All classes in a given day are 45/95 minutes in length with no disruptions. This new schedule results in an additional guaranteed 120 min/week contact time with students without changing our start or end time. A/B Office hours During Eagle Opps, teachers will have office hours for 30 minutes and then a duty free lunch. Students will visit teachers for academic support during this time. The bell will ring at the 30-minute interval signaling a change from A office hours to B office hours. The bell will ring at the end of Eagle Opps signaling to students that they need to move to their next class destination. Locations where students MAY and MAY NOT eat their lunch: Students MAY eat their lunch in the commons, upper commons, classrooms with teachers present (designated by a sign), and the north gym as overflow. Students will NOT be able to access gyms, locker rooms, auditorium, weight room and wrestling room during Eagle Opps. *There will be “peanut/tree nut free” signs on 2 tables in the lunch room and in all of the classrooms that students with allergies have on their schedule. What will students do during Eagle Opps? Students will be required to remain on campus, and students will have the opportunity to eat, engage in academic enrichment or acceleration during Office Hour A and Office Hour B (see permitted locations listed above). Students will have the opportunity to spend time in acceleration, enrichment and/or involvement activities of their choice, based on individual need or interest. Teachers will assign mandatory office hours. Students will receive e-mail notification of mandatory office hour assignment. It is the student’s responsibility to check their e-mail daily for assigned office hours. It is important that we help students to use their time responsibly. Students develop that skill by being given the freedom to make decisions about how to best manage their time. Staff cannot mandate student time. The only mandatory sessions will be for students with 4 or more Fs, who will attend a mandatory study hall-managed by the administration. In addition, any freshman student that has been identified as needing reading support, gauged by MAP and KAP scores, will be attending a support session during this time. Both of these required interventions will meet during office hour A and student will have office hour B to eat lunch.
What are the consequences for a student who does not use Eagle Opps appropriately? If a student uses Eagle Opps inappropriately (fails to report to assigned location, creates a disruption to others, leaves campus, etc.) he/she will be assigned to an EOR, Eagle Opportunity to Reflect, during Eagle Opps. The student will eat his/her lunch in the EOR assigned location. Can Eagle Opps be taken away? Our current schedule was approved to meet the unique needs of our building. Yes, Eagle Opps can be taken away and aligned with the traditional high school bell schedule if there are behavioral and/or attendance issues. Eagle Opps may be suspended for a day or multiple days. |
