Freshman Families Welcome to Olathe North

7/16/2019

Dear Parents of the Class of 2023,

Welcome to Olathe North High School.  We are excited for you to join Eagle Nation and the start of another great school year.  Hopefully you received the email I sent last week pertaining to registration.  If not, it is listed on my blog www.jasonhermanon.weebly.com/newsletter/registration-information

That leads me to my first point.  The majority of the communication from Olathe North comes through our Blackboard email system or on my blog page.  Please favorite www.jasonhermanon.weebly.com   This website will take you to my blog home page.  From there you click the menu button on the top left of the page and can go to the newsletter, fundraisers and student recognition pages.  Most of the information will be on the newsletter page. (You are currently on the newsletter page).

Here are some commonly asked questions about the start of school, along with registration.

If I already enrolled on ParentVUE and paid fees on TouchBase do I need to attend Registration at Olathe North on July 25th?
-If you registered and paid fees online you do NOT need to come to ON on July 25th.

When will my student receive their student ID?
-Student ID's will be distributed to all students on Aug 20th when the students take school pictures.  (More information to follow on school pictures)

When will my student receive the PE uniform that I paid for online?
-All PE uniforms will be distributed to the students during their PE hour during the first week of school.

How will my student eat school lunch without a student ID?
-To receive school lunch your student needs to know their student Id or first and last name.

When will my student receive their locker and locker combination?
-Lockers will be given to all freshman.  Their locker number and combination will be located on the printed schedule that will be handed to them on the first full day of school, Thursday 8/15.

What do my students need to bring on the first 1/2 day on Aug 14th?
-Freshman students do not need to bring any items with them on Aug 14th.  This is our LINK Crew day and students will be involved in team building and school tours.

When can my student visit ON to walk their schedule?
-Freshman can walk their schedule from July 31th-Aug 13th.  Our building is open for you to visit.

My freshman is older why can't I order a parking pass online?
-Olathe North has limited parking spots on campus, we only allow upper class-men to pay for parking online.  Any freshman that has a restricted driver license must visit with an administrator to receive special circumstances and will then be placed on a waiting list.

After we receive our schedule when can we schedule an appointment for a schedule change?
-All schedule change requests can be made through email request to the alpha counselor.  If request cannot be completed over email the counselor will contact the student or family.  See the ONHS website and visit the counseling tab for more detailed information.

My freshman student is interested in playing a Fall Sport.  What do they need to do?
-Football, Volleyball, Girl's Golf, Men's Soccer, Gymnastics, and Cross Country are fall sports. Please go to the athletic page on the Olathe North website to contact a coach.  Some of our sports have already been preparing.  All freshman are welcome to come out on Aug 19th as long as they have a physical form and a concussion form completed.  These forms are online under the athletic tab on the Olathe North website.

What does Aug 14th look like for my student?
-Wednesday, August 14th, all freshman are to report to the North Commons before 8:00am.  Freshman do not need to bring anything to school with them that day. Students will eat lunch that day. If your student wants to bring their own lunch, they are welcome to do that.   Students will be released at 12:15.  Buses will run normal pick up times in the morning and will leave Olathe North at 12:22.  Please make sure your student knows what bus they ride by number.  That evening all Olathe North freshman and parents are invited to our annual "Welcome to the Eagles Nest Night".  A post card will be mailed home with this information.  The freshman will have a 9th grade only mixer in the Auxiliary gym from 6:30-8:00.  There will be an informative parent meeting in the Auditorium, with yours truly, from 6:45-7:15.  Then parents will breakout to meet your student's alpha administrator and counselor.  Both events will conclude at 8:00pm.

When will my student receive their Dell Laptop?
-All freshman will receive their Dell Laptop on Tuesday August 20th.  The Tech deployment day will be done during the student’s PE hour.  We will have district tech support in the building to help the students’ login and setup their laptops.  (More information will be sent out about the deployment days.)

When will students receive their schedules?
-Students and parents will be able to see their schedules online on July 29th on StudentVUE and ParentVUE.  If there are any questions about schedules please email your alpha counselor.  Please see all counseling information at
https://www.olatheschools.org/domain/2625

Where can we find the school supply list that our freshman will need for school?
We do not have a student supply list for high school students.  All students will be told what supplies they will need for each class.  Basic supplies will get your student through weeks one and two.

Any additional questions please call Olathe North at 780-7140 in the next few weeks and we will do everything we can to answer all your questions.

High School Summer Hours
As registration began across the Olathe School District July 8, summer is one of the district’s busiest times of year. As students are to be registered between July 8 and 25, it is encouraged for parents and guardians to enroll early and not wait until the last minute, especially a high school family new to the district.
“Particularly for new families, enrollment can be a busy time,” said Debbie Stewart registrar at Olathe East High School. “We usually enroll about 150 new families over the summer.”
Whether guardians are picking up an enrollment packet, requesting records, meeting with a counselor or visiting your new school, any time before July 25 works best to avoid a wait.
“Typically if families wait until July 25, you will have a wait to do something simple,” said Stewart. “You can always call ahead and avoid the crowd.”
Olathe high schools are open (HOURS) Monday through Thursday. The main phone number for each high schools are:
Olathe East High School – (913) 780-7120
Olathe North High School – (913) 780-7140
Olathe Northwest High School – (913) 780-7150
Olathe South High School – (913) 780-7160
