Graduation Information Update5/20/2018 ON Families,
Due to inclement weather, the Olathe North Graduation has been moved from ODAC to the Olathe North Gym. Due to the change, there are a few logistical details I want to clear up. Tickets: Due to the gym capacity you must have a ticket to enter the Olathe North gym to watch the graduation live. Each Senior was given 4 tickets for their family. We will not have any additional tickets available. Any senior who did not pick up their tickets can report to the front office at 5:00pm to pick up their tickets. Overflow seating is available on a first come first serve basis in the South Gym. The graduation will be live streamed for those guests to watch. We will have bleacher seating and chair seating on the floor. Senior Arrival Time: Now that the ceremony is at ON, seniors do not need to report to their classrooms until 5:45pm. All readers and row marshalls please report at 5:30pm. Seniors remember: press your gown, dress appropriately and arrive on time. Spectator Arrival Time: The Olathe North building will be opened at 5:00pm. The Olathe North Gyms will open at 5:30pm for spectator seating. To get in to the North Gym all persons must have a ticket. Overflow seating is in the South Gym. Parking: Parking is first come first serve with the exception of our dignitaries who will be attending the ceremony. We also have very limited handicap parking at Olathe North. I would recommend dropping families at the door then parking your vehicle. Overflow parking will be located at the Johnson County Sherriff's Office at Buchanan and Santa Fe. There will be a shuttle that will run prior to graduation and after graduation. Sorry for the last minute change, but weather got the best of us today. I know it is frustrating that only 4 family members are available to enter the North gym with a ticket. Please respect my workers at the door and understand it is not their decision to only allow 4 tickets per family. Enjoy this wonderful evening and congratulations to all the Graduates and their families. Jason Herman Principal Olathe North High School

1 to 1 Initiative Update5/16/2018 High School 1:1 Technology Initiative Update
Implementing a 1:1 high school technology initiative has been a goal of the Olathe Public Schools. The district launched its 1:1 initiative at Olathe West at the beginning of this school year. The launch of Olathe West’s technology initiative allowed the district an opportunity to do due diligence on network design, device selection and device deployment. The district is pleased to announce that the four remaining high schools will deploy devices to students and staff during first semester of the 2018-19 school year. Students will receive the Dell 3189 laptop. More details will follow as plans are ironed out for a fall 2018 deployment.

May 2018
Dear parents, As you may have heard, the release date for season two of 13 Reasons Why has been announced on Netflix. The upcoming release date will be Friday, May 18, and trailers for the series are already out. The Olathe Public Schools wants to make sure that parents are aware in order to generate conversations with your teens, as it is likely teens could be watching the series as the first series was very popular. The first season depicted strong and graphic themes of suicide, bullying, sexual assault, drug use, and other social issues. 13 Reasons Why portrays teen suicide in a very open manner but also in a way that may glamorize suicide and discourage individuals from seeking help from parents, family members, or counselors. Each of us has the ability to flip the script to resiliency by listening, providing support, discussing healthy ways to cope, identifying trusted helpers and connecting individuals to resources to build a suicide-safer community. Actions to consider: • Watch the series yourself so you are aware of the content and the issues addressed in the series. Be aware, this may not be the best choice for everyone, content is graphic and can be stress inducing. • Discuss the issues related to the series. The following is a link to talking points regarding the series: http://www.jedfoundation.org\13-reasons-why-talking-points • Encourage individuals to tell someone if they or someone they know is having a hard time or considering suicide. It is a myth that talking about suicide leads to suicide. Help is available. • Familiarize yourself with resources in our community to support individuals struggling with thoughts of suicide. For more information on suicide prevention and about the resources available in Johnson County, go to https://www.jocogov.org/dept/mental-health/education-outreach/suicide-prevention/resources Suicide is NEVER the answer; getting help is the answer. Prevention, Awareness, and support is available at Suicide.org or National Suicide Prevention Lifeline - 1-800-273-8225. In addition to using these tips to talk to your students, all schools have counselors and other mental health professionals who are available to help your child. Please contact your school if you have concerns about your student and need additional resources. Sincerely, Jason Herman Principal Olathe North High School

Graduation Tickets and Times5/11/2018 Graduation tickets are being handed out on 5/14 5/15, and 5/16 during Eagle Halftime. Every senior is receiving four tickets. These tickets will have important meaning if we are unable to have graduation at ODAC. If the ceremony is forced to be inside the ticket will be the only way family members will be able to enter the North Gym.
If we are moved inside for graduation, due to weather, only four seats are available for senior guests in the gym. Overflow seating will be located in the south gym where the ceremony will be live streamed. Also, the live stream will be available online from any computer on the internet. Requests for handicap seating must be made through Kathy Stanley in the front office. Seniors will need to turn a ticket in for a handicap ticket. Olathe North only has the availability for 80 handicap spots. Therefore we are asking if you request a handicap space in the North gym that all other guests sit in the bleachers. We will accommodate those that need to sit together in the handicap section if space is available. This is a first come, first serve opportunity. Graduation Practice is 8:00am in the Olathe North Commons on Friday 5/18/17. Please make sure you have the following items taken care of. 1) Go to www.mypaymentsplus.com or call Glenda Guile (Olathe North Bookkeeper) to ensure that all fees have been submitted and paid. 2) Make sure all Jostens orders are in so you can receive your cap and gown after graduation practice. 3) Senior picnic will follow graduation practice. A separate blog will be completed with Senior picnic information.. 4) Please see other blogs in the newsletter section that speaks to graduation. On Sunday 5/20/18 all graduating seniors must report to Olathe North by 5:00pm. Graduates will report to assigned classrooms that they will receive at graduation practice. The graduates will load busses headed for ODAC at 5:45pm. We will arrive at ODAC at 6:15pm to line up for the procession into the stadium. IMPORTANT MESSAGE: I recommend that graduates are dropped of at Olathe North at 5:00pm and catch a ride home with family from ODAC after the graduation. We will have 16 one way busses to ODAC, if your graduate needs a ride back to Olathe North after the graduation they will need to sign up for the return bus ride at graduation practice. We will only hold as many busses needed to return students to Olathe North after the graduation. After the graduation is completed, graduates will need to report to the south side of the stadium to return their red stole and receive their diploma. Graduates and families then have the opportunity to take pictures on the field. We will clear ODAC at 9:00 so that students can prepare for project graduation.. Keep checking the newsletter blogs for more information about graduation.
