Senior Information and Updates4/17/2020 Dear Seniors and Senior Parents,
First, I hope that you are healthy and staying safe during this time. I certainly miss seeing you guys during EHT and in the hallways of Olathe North. I wanted to send a quick update trying to answer a few questions I have received over the past couple weeks. I am aware that many of these answers leave us with a bit of an unknown, however I want you to be ensured that the five high school principals and staff involved are working to come up with possible solutions. This is just a reminder that a lot of the decisions will be based on CDC recommendations and decisions made by Governor Kelly. Graduation: As you are aware we have scheduled graduation for July 25th at 10:00am @ CBAC. As we get closer to the time we will discuss grad practice and distribution of caps and gowns. For those students that cannot attend we will make sure to get all your Jostens orders to you when we receive them. Again, we will not have all the details until mid-May with everything from Jostens. Diplomas: If you are not attending graduation we will not distribute the diploma until after grades are submitted. Students last day to complete work is May 15th. We are still determining if we are going to give diplomas before the July ceremony for students that might need them. We also have not determined if we will mail them home or have a day you can pick them up. Again, we are unsure how the best way to handle this at this time. Project Graduation: At this time, all May project graduation plans have been canceled. I am working with the Project Graduation leadership about what we plan to do for the seniors. We may not host an event, but we will work to come up with something for our seniors. More information to come. Senior Academic and Athletic Signings: We are looking at several different options for these ceremonies. Possible virtual ceremony that can be created and sent to families and placed on the website. A Google slide presentation. Again all high school principals are working on ways to celebrate our seniors. Yearbooks: We usually receive yearbooks in mid-May. We will determine a day that we can distribute yearbooks to seniors and all students. Collection of Laptops: We will schedule a time for seniors to turn in laptops, textbooks, calculators, uniforms, etc. We will also schedule times to pick up personal belongings that were left at school before spring break. Everything listed above is being discussed and considered. The safety of our students and staff are of the utmost importance. With the unknown, still to come we need to ensure that we are making the best decisions. I know there seems to be many questions that are unanswered, I just wanted our community to know that we are working to answer all these questions and want to help our seniors have a memorable experience as we complete their senior year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Jason Herman Principal Olathe North High School jhermanon@olatheschools.org @JasonHermanON

New Password Process4/17/2020 ![]()
Parents,
In an effort to best serve students and their families, beginning today, April 17, the Technology Division is enabling the new password reset process. Technology will be eliminating the 90-day forced password reset and will begin to employ a self-service password reset provided by Office 365. At this time students are not required to change their passwords. However, we encourage users to create new passwords to meet the new, complex password requirements in the near future. Benefits of utilizing a self-serve password reset include: 1. Users can change their password anytime, anywhere, provided they have access to www.office.com. 2. Password resets no longer require the use of a school computer or district-managed device. 3. Forgotten password resets can be initiated by the user through Office 365. 4. Enhanced security, as newly generated passwords will meet more complex criteria. Attached is a document which provides additional information and a step-by-step process. If you have any questions regarding the new self-service password protocol, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@olatheschools.org.

Continuous Learning Update4/12/2020 Olathe parents,
New continuous learning opportunities are now available for each grade level and content area at www.olatheschools.org/ContinuousLearning beginning tonight at 5 p.m. Based on feedback we’ve received, new Continuous Learning content will be released on Sundays at 5 p.m. moving forward. Thank you for your feedback as we work to make Continuous Learning work for Olathe families. Step-by-step instructions lead online learners through grade level or course specific continuous learning opportunities. Visit www.olatheschools.org/ContinuousLearning to get started. Students who are off-screen learners will be provided paper packets with new content each week to continue learning. These packets will be available to print from the website or to pick up at the food distribution sites on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Central, Fairview, Havencroft, Indian Creek, Northview, Ridgeview, Rolling Ridge, Washington and Westview elementary schools. Read more about food distribution here: https://bit.ly/2VbXppk. We do have one small change to our meal distribution program. Beginning Monday, April 13, for families driving to pick up meals, we ask that they pull forward and open their trunk so that staff members can place meals into the trunk. This will further limit person-to-person contact as an additional precaution to keep families and staff members safe. We are also thrilled to report that this week’s lessons include challenge boards for PK-8, an additional educational tool to keep our students learning and growing. District technology support is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Technology will be providing support via email. Parents can email our Help Desk helpdesk@olatheschools.org for district related technology support. Teachers and principals will be available to answer questions related to continuous learning and will respond within 24 hours (Monday through Friday). For questions related to Continuous Learning, please contact your teacher or principal. Thank you for your patience as we work to engage learners during an unprecedented time. Again, visit www.olatheschools.org/ContinuousLearning to get started.

Food Distribution Plan4/8/2020 Olathe Families
We wanted to make you aware of a change to the Food Distribution plan for providing on-the-go meal packs for students. Beginning on Monday, April 13, the food distribution site will only be open on Mondays and Wednesdays. This change comes out of an abundance of caution to families and staff members working meal delivery. Reducing the number of person-to-person contacts each week will help to keep our school communities safe and healthy. Two breakfasts and two lunches will be distributed to each child on Mondays and three breakfasts and three lunches will be distributed to each child on Wednesdays. These meal packs will be provided for students 18 and under from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the following sites:
Two important notes:
Thank you for continuing to partner with us to support our children. We appreciate your patience as we make changes to better serve our community.

Continuous Learning Update4/3/2020 Olathe parents,
We want to thank you for the overwhelming patience and support you have provided the district as we have worked to navigate our current reality and the implementation of our Continuous Learning Plan. We are proud of our staff for the hours they have dedicated to creating high quality content at every age level. We’re proud of our families and communities for putting such a great emphasis on education, even if it looks different than the traditional classroom. I’m proud of our students for the resilience they are showing during this difficult time. The first week of Continuous Learning has been a great success. Students are keeping engaged in learning, while staying safe with their families. We look forward to launching new content each Monday morning for the next seven weeks. Packet learning has also been a great success. These packets, with new content, will continue to be available each week to print from the website or to pick up at the food distribution sites, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Central, Fairview, Havencroft, Indian Creek, Northview, Ridgeview, Rolling Ridge, Washington and Westview elementary schools. Read more about food distribution here: https://bit.ly/2WuPcih. It’s important to note that at this time, no additional assignments on top of what is available on the Continuous Learning website and in packets will be given to students in grade PK-8. The exception would be specific situations at the high school level. Based on feedback we receive, we will work to enhance each week’s materials to make sure we are continuously striving to meet the needs of all of our students. With this in mind, we will have challenge boards, with additional learning opportunities for students PK-8 beginning on April 13. As a reminder for those of you with students in grades PK-8, please feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers for feedback while remembering the feedback will not impact grades. For our students in high school, please continue to work with teachers and school staff related to contracts, Advanced Placement, College Now, and Quickstep. Thank you for being a partner with the Olathe Public Schools. We look forward to sharing new content on Monday at www.olatheschools.org/ContinuousLearning. Sincerely, Dr. Brent Yeager, Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services Dr. Brent Yeager Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services Olathe Public Schools 913-780-8132 @YeagerBrent

Graduation Rescheduled4/1/2020 If you have not seen this it is officially out. We will have a graduation. I will keep you posted as we move closer to the date.
The Olathe Public Schools is excited to announce the rescheduling of our senior commencement ceremonies for the class of 2020. The revised commencement plan reschedules the May 15-17 ceremonies to the last weekend in July of 2020, to give as much time as possible to allowfor the necessary restrictions and precautions of COVID-19 to be lifted by local and state health officials. The ceremonies will take place outdoorsat the College Boulevard Activities Center (CBAC), with the Olathe Northwest High Schoolgym as the alternative site for inclement weather. The revised schedule will be as follows: Friday, July 24: Olathe West at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25: Olathe North at 10 a.m. Olathe South at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26: Olathe East at 10 a.m. Olathe Northwest at 7:30 p.m. “We feel it is very important to do everything in our power to recognize our seniors, especially given the devastating change to their final semester, which included losing prom, sports, activities and performances, student trips, and commencement in May,” said Jim McMullen, Assistant Superintendent of High School Education. “The Board of Education and our Superintendent John Allison have been incredibly supportive of the concept to honor our seniors; it’s just a little later than originally planned.” The rescheduled dates will be held pending clearance from both the county and state health departments, which have both been an essential partner with the Olathe Public Schools during this challenging time. All Alternative Education graduation ceremonies will be held during the same weekend, with more details to come. More information will be shared in the next few weeks from the high school principals to their respective communities. Jason Herman Principal Olathe North High School (913) 780-7140 @JasonHermanON |
