This year we implemented Eagle Flight Crew, which is a student leadership class that focuses on improving school pride. We have done a lot to promote events and activities, plan assemblies, and are currently working on improvement projects throughout Olathe North.
This class is offered by application only, however for the 2019-2020 school year this is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. We are looking for students who show leadership traits, are excited to be involved, and want to play a role in building ON spirit. (They do not have to be super outgoing or loud.) We would like to have a variety of students, as getting voices from various clubs, sports and activities helps us better relate to the student population at Olathe North. If you have any students in mind, send them my way! (we are currently looking for more MALES in the building, as we have had ZERO male applicants for next year!) The original application deadline was March 20th, but due to Mrs. Eick's absence before Spring Break, we are still accepting applications. (Interviews will begin next week.) Please encourage students to visit Mrs Eick if interested. Click the file at the top of the page for the application.

Attendance Information3/27/2019 Parents/Guardians,
A friendly reminder, if your student is absent from school, it is imperative that you call to excuse the absence. Any absences that are not excused will be subject to administrative action. Please remember that you can excuse your students attendance via email, voicemail, or phone call. Please see below for your best option. 1) 913-780-7845. If the attendance ladies are on another call you will be directed to the voicemail. Voicemail is checked consistently throughout the day. 2) If you cannot remember the phone number call the main school line at 913-780-7140 and dial #1 when the voice prompt states, "Press #1 for attendance" 3) onattendance@olatheschools.org is the email address to report absences. In my opinion this is the best way to report absences. There is a hard copy record for both the parent and the school. 4) All of these options can be found at http://www.olatheschools.org/Page/8592 on the Olathe North website. Below is what our web page on attendance looks like. Report An Absence

Cycle 3 Classroom Grants Support Innovation and Need Across the District
The Olathe Public Schools Foundation Classroom Grant program helps support innovative and need-based programs in Olathe schools. This week the Foundation awarded $35,896 for 23 programs at every level of learning (early childhood through high school). These funds are the third and final round of grants dispersed during the 2018-19 school year and are part of the Foundation’s annual $100,000 grant program. Cycle 3 grants helped fund a wide range of needs and ideas including German, French and Spanish language literature titles, a self-defensive training suit, a wind tunnel, air rockets, and materials to help special needs students learn social skills. See below for a complete list. Special thanks to the Kohler family for supporting an individual classroom grant this cycle. Classroom grants will be awarded again in the fall. Learn more about the program here. Watch a video of the day’s fun! 2018-19 Cycle 3 Classroom Grants

Para Appreciation Week3/25/2019 March 25, 2019 ~ With the district’s Para Appreciation Week being March 25-29, we wanted to take time to share information about all the wonderful work that is done across the district by our classified paras. Paras throughout the district serve in a wide range of environments with a broad array of duties and responsibilities. The vast locations where our staff serve include early childhood classrooms, resource rooms, ED resource rooms, CBR classrooms, Autism classrooms, AWE & Prairie Learning Center, Claire Learning Center, Mill Creek Campus, and in our wide variety of programs for 18-21 year old students.
Olathe paras work on the front lines providing so many different services including academic support, social-emotional support, keeping students safe and healthy, and serving as role models and mentors to students. Many of our staff also assist students in the community with employment skills and daily living functions. Each individual is truly vital to our ability to provide the best special education services to our Olathe students as we prepare them for their future! We are incredibly grateful for everything they provide to our students and special education teachers and staff. Please join us in thanking all our para-professionals for their dedication, commitment, and hard work. This entry was posted in News by Marlene Colgan. Bookmark the permalink.

Snow Day Minutes Update3/20/2019 Parents,
I wanted to share with you an update to the plan for making up the additional lost student contact hours from the Feb. 27 snow day. To make up these additional hours, we have decided that the April 12th Professional Development (PD) day will be switched to a full student contact day at the high school level. By doing this, we will meet the state required hours for grades 9-12. In working with the Kansas State Department of Education and our Board of Education, we formally changed the April 12th PD day to be a snow day “make up” date, which allows the district to receive some forgiveness hours in addition to the extra high school student contact time that day. With the April 12th change, and the additional forgiveness hours from the state, we will be able to reverse the May 22nd finals day back to a half day. Below are all the schedule changes that impact our high school students for the remainder of the year: · At the high school level only, the Monday, March 18th Professional Development day was changed to a full day of school for students in grades 9-12. · The Friday, April 12th Professional Development day will change to a full day of school for students in grades 9-12. Elementary and middle school will not have school this day and Professional Development will be held for staff at those grade levels. · High school added 10 minutes to the beginning of the school day by starting the day at 7:50 a.m. each day of the week for all of 4th quarter. · There will no longer be a late start on Thursdays during 4th quarter. Classes will begin at 7:50 a.m. · Wednesday, May 22 (the second day of finals for grades 9-11) will go back to being a half day for high school students. · High school buses will run on the same schedule as they have all year. Again, these changes will only impact high school students. Elementary and middle school will remain with their current schedules for the remainder of the school year. Let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Jason Herman Principal

![]() OLATHE ~ Arjun Garapaty, a sophomore at Olathe North High School, has earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. Nationally, while the actual number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students taking the ACT earn a top score. “The Olathe North Community is so proud of Arjun and his amazing accomplishment,” Olathe North Principal Jason Herman said. “His academic efforts have paid off at the highest level. He is an example of how the Olathe School District prepares students K-12.” He is involved in soccer, DECA, science bowl, scholars bowl, debate, forensics, student council, French National Honor Society and Distinguished Scholars. |
