Is your student taking the ACT in April? ON will be starting free ACT prep classes during Seminar to get our students ready for the April, June and July tests. Classes will start on March 5th. Students should stop by Mrs. Sherraden’s desk to sign up. If your student still needs to take the ACT to attend a four year university, now would be a good time to sign up for prep and also the ACT. The summer tests(June and July) fill up quickly. Students need to register at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act.html if they need this test for college admissions.

What is the Academic & Military Signing Ceremony?
Twelve years ago, the faculty and staff of Olathe North decided that we needed to honor the students who excel in the classroom and receive scholarships to attend post-secondary institutions based upon their academic talents and performance, just like we do those students who receive scholarships for post-secondary institutions for athletics. What students are eligible to participate in the ceremony? Seniors who are in good standing with Olathe North and on-track to graduate may participate in the ceremony if they meet one of the three criteria listed below. He or she needs to be:
The first step is to fill out the Google Form that is located at this web address https://tinyurl.com/onhsamsc2020. There are a few other tasks to take care of, but this is where he or she will need to start. The registration deadline is April 16, 2020. Will the students be informed about this ceremony? The students will have the opportunity to visit with Mr. Belske during Halftime A on Thursday and Friday, February 20 & 21, 2020, in the Little Theatre. There will be a short presentation and an opportunity to ask questions. While attendance at one of these meetings is not required, it is highly encouraged. When and where does the ceremony take place? The ceremony will be during an all-school assembly in the North Gym on Thursday, April 30, 2020, and will start at approx. 9:45 am. More specific details regarding parking and other items will be mailed home to the parents of those students participating prior to the ceremony. If you have other questions or for more information, please e-mail Mr. Richard Belske at rbelskeon@olatheschools.org.

OLATHE ~ Nine students in the Olathe Public Schools have been named as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.
The students are Basima Khan from Olathe East High School; Eddie Dai and Manas Madhira from Olathe North High School; Dallin Armstrong, Zoe Kulphongpatana, Ryan Moddesette and Kaiya Scott from Olathe Northwest High School; and Harrison Lemke and Dylan Stanley from Olathe South High School. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating seniors. Annually, up to 161 students are chosen among outstanding graduating seniors to become U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. Scholars are chosen based on their accomplishments in many areas, including academic and artistic success, leadership, and involvement in school and the community. Semifinalists will be announced in April and finalists will be announced in May. Those picked as finalists are invited to Washington, D.C. in June to participate in the National Recognition Program, featuring various events and enrichment activities and culminating in the presentation of the Presidential Scholars Medallion during a White House-sponsored ceremony.

Red Snow Day 2/5/202/3/2020 Olathe Public Schools families,
It’s an exciting time in Kansas City as the Kansas City Chiefs have won their first Super Bowl in 50 years and the entire Kansas City metro area prepares for a celebration of historic proportions. With concerns city-wide about available staffing and substitutes, and with the amount of staff and families planning to attend the celebration, we have made the decision to cancel school on Wednesday, February 5. There will be no Johnson County Parks and Recreation care available. We hope that you understand this is not a decision that was taken lightly. Classes will resume Thursday, Feb. 6. Just a friendly reminder there is a previously scheduled professional development day on Friday, Feb. 7 and there will be no school that day. Thank you for your understanding and support.
