Raptor Visitor Management System1/31/2020 Dear Olathe North parents,
We wanted to make you aware about an addition to our visitor management process. This school year, Olathe Public Schools will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in select buildings before implementing in all buildings across the district. The Raptor system will strengthen our ability to screen visitors, contractors and volunteers in our school in alignment with our current school safety initiatives. Similar to our current protocol, visitors will still be asked to show ID, such as a driver’s license or government-issued ID, at our doors. Visitors who wish to go beyond the front office will be asked to show their ID again which will be scanned or manually entered into the Raptor system. By entering an ID into the Raptor system, the identity will be compared with the national database of registered sex offenders. Data from the ID will not be shared with any outside agency. Once a visitor has been cleared, a printed visitor badge will be issued with the individual’s photo, date and purpose of their visit. This sticker is to be worn during the entirety of a visit, much like our current procedure. Please understand this new layer of security is not intended to discourage parents from visiting their child at school. We welcome visitors and encourage parents to be play an active role in their child’s educational experience. The goal is to simply enhance the safety and security of both students and staff by prohibiting school access who pose a potential threat. As the safety and security of students, staff and our patrons is our top priority, we appreciate your patience as we strengthen our safety and security practices. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please see the attached video links for detailed information. Please keep your ears open for announcements this Month. 2/04/20 “I Have a Dream that my four little children will one day live in a Nation where they will not be judged by the Color of their skin, but by the content of their character” … Dr. Martin Luther King Jr 2/05/20 “Black History Month must be more than just a month of remembrance; it should be a tribute to our history and reminder of the work that lies in the months and years ahead.” —Marty Meehan 2/06/20“Black history isn’t a separate history. This is all of our history, this is American history, and we need to understand that. It has such an impact on kids and their values and how they view black people.” —Karyn Parsons 2/07/20 “Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” —Coretta Scott King 2/010/20. “Won’t it be wonderful when black history and Native American history and Jewish history and all of U.S. history is taught from one book. Just U.S. history.” —Maya Angelou 2/11/20 “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.” —Langston Hughes 2/17/20 “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” —Booker T. Washington 2/18/20 “One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. And so when I hear about negative and false attacks, I really don’t invest any energy in them, because I know who I am.” —Michelle Obama 2/19/20 I am America. I am the part you won’t recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me.” —Muhammad Ali 2/20/20 “I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” —Martin Luther King, Jr 2/21/20 “Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition he or she has overcome to reach his goals. ----Dorothy Height 2/24/20 “I need to see my own beauty and to continue to be reminded that I am enough, that I am worthy of love without effort, that I am beautiful, that the texture of my hair and that the shape of my curves, the size of my lips, the color of my skin, and the feelings that I have are all worthy and okay.” —Tracee Ellis Ross 2/25/20 “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” —Arthur Ashe 2/26/20” No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.”----- Alice Walker 2/27/20 “We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers. Our abundance has brought us neither peace of mind nor serenity of spirit.” —Martin Luther King, Jr 2/28/20 "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
